On January 20, GSL Director Steven Hoffman was interviewed by CTV about the World Health Organization’s 10 threats to global health in 2019. He discusses the threat of vaccine hesitancy – the decision not to vaccinate despite the availability of vaccines. What’s notable about this global health threat is that unlike the other nine threats on the list which are biological and environmental threats, vaccine hesitancy is a social behaviour. Hoffman discusses how this choice not to vaccinate ourselves and our children is allowing diseases to spread worldwide, and allowing diseases that have already been eliminated to resurface (e.g. measles).
